Sandra Cisneros

5 facts about Sandra:
Sandra Cisneros was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1954 as the only girl in her family of seven children. Sandra moved often and grew up to be introverted and express herself mostly through secret writings. Sandra's parents both believed in the importance of education and pressured their children to study hard and break their family's cycle of poverty. After failing to organize a private writing program in Austin, Texas in 1987; Sandra moved to California to teach at CSU Chico. In 1991 when Random house published Women Hollering Creek and Other Stories, Cisneros became the first Chicana to recieve a major publishing contract for a work about chicanas. In 1997, Cisneros was in the news for two years after she painted her San Antonio house a bright shade of purple. The historical city's board objected to the eye-catching color and wanted it changed until it later faded and was deemed "historically appropriate". :D
